By News Creatives Authors , in Business , at November 18, 2021

Adele opened up about social media, body image and her experience with postpartum depression, also known as postnatal depression, after the birth of her son Angelo in a wide-ranging interview with The Face published Thursday ahead of her new album release.

Key Facts

The award-winning artist, born Adele Adkins, said during a Grammy acceptance speech in 2017 she “lost a lot of myself” through becoming a mother, but also described it as a “blessing,” something she expanded on in the interview.

She said “there are definitely a few elements of myself that I don’t think I’ll ever get back” since giving birth in 2012.

Adele, 33, said she “got really quite bad postpartum depression,” but that “it definitely gets easier as they get older, it really does.”

Crucial Quote

“As they get older, you can take them everywhere with you and they can tell you if they’re not enjoying something, what they want, if they’re hungry or if they have a tummy ache, whatever. It’s way easier to navigate once you can really communicate with them,” she says of her son. “He’s about to turn nine and he’s getting to the point now where he’s got opinions. It’s fucking fun!”

Key Background

Adele has been busy promoting 30, her first new album in six years, ahead of its release Friday. It deals with her divorce but also, as the New York Times wrote in its review, “about the aftermath: guilt, drinking, depression, loneliness, self-doubt and, eventually, moving on.” The album has been widely acclaimed, with Rolling Stone awarding it five stars. Her concert special and interview with fellow mononym Oprah was watched by nearly 10 million people on Sunday.
