‘Arcane’ Part 2 Teases Romance Between Iconic ‘League Of Legends’ Heroes

Yesterday, Netflix dropped the second of three batches of Arcane episodes, an unusual format for the streaming giant, but the quality has not dipped. The second three episodes are just as good as the first three, and Arcane has kept its sky-high viewer scores intact from week 1, even if the show has found a bit of trouble placing highly on Netflix’s top 10 charts.

There were many developments over the course of the three episodes yesterday, but one that was getting fans the most excited was the tease of a potential romance between two classic League of Legends characters, something you’d never get to see unfold within the game itself.

Spoilers follow, before we talk about this any further.

While we saw Jayce dive headfirst into a physical relationship with Mel (who some believe may end up being LeBlanc, down the road), what I’m talking about here are the sparks between Vi and Caitlyn.

There were a few moments this crops up. In one scene, Vi tells Caitlyn to blend in at a brothel and asks if she’s prefer men or women. Caitlyn doesn’t answer, but later we see her flirting with a woman and Vi has…a look, shall we say.

Later, there’s a moment where Caitlyn and Vi are essentially nose to nose, and there’s definitely something hanging in that space in between them. They don’t kiss, but it’s certainly something, and later Vi tells Caitlyn that she’s nicknamed her cupcake because she’s just so sweet (Caitlyn uses cupcake traps in League of Legends, a fun nod, in addition to being flirty).

Before this, Vi never had any romantic interests as a young teen in that batch of episodes. And Caitlyn, despite growing up with the exceedingly handsome Jayce, expresses no interest in him. It does seem like the writers of Arcane are potentially pairing up Vi and Caitlyn, though there’s no telling if anything actually manifests from this in the final three episodes, which are likely to be more focused on action, than romance.

I know some fans were also hoping there could be a spark of something between Viktor and Jayce, but if there is, it may be one-sided on Viktor’s end, as Jayce is very much into Mel, and says he views Viktor like a brother. Still, Viktor has become one of the most sympathetic characters of the series, and fans are somewhat dreading his eventually (League spoilers) turn into a megavillain.

Arcane is really just a phenomenal show, top to bottom. I cannot get over what a great job they’ve done here, both for avid League fans, but also for those who know nothing about the original game. It’s a must-watch for anyone, and I assume that will be the case for next week’s final three episodes as well.
