YouTube is one of the top social media platforms in the world. As such, it provides a plethora of untapped potential for many businesses. Whether you’re a new business looking for ways to establish an online presence or have been on the platform a while but haven’t been able to figure out how to tap into the potential it has to offer, once you know how to use it effectively, you’re sure to grow your following.
There are several ways a company can leverage YouTube to grow its customer base. Here, eight members of Young Entrepreneur Council share the most effective strategies they know to help companies achieve the results they need.
1. Showcase In-Depth Storytelling
The YouTube audience is more invested, at least when it comes to time spent on a page, than other social media platforms like Instagram or TikTok. Makes sense, right? If you sit down to YouTube, you’re prepared to throw more time at a video than you would be if you were scrolling through Reels. Tapping into that customer attention is essential, and I think YouTube is the place to showcase more in-depth storytelling—whether that’s of your brand, your quarterly goals or initiatives, interviews with your team, etc. Capitalizing on the chance to show off more of what makes your business awesome can be a great strategy to both grow and captivate your customer base. They get to know your brand and become invested in your story. – Emily Stallings, Casely, Inc.
2. Utilize User-Generated Content
Utilize user-generated content for customer and prospect education. Don’t rely on you and your company to create all of the content. By using user-generated content, ideally from customers and partners, you allow your channel to be approachable and provide personable content that is easy to digest. It’s also a good, organic way to grow your YouTube channel by encouraging customers to visit the channel and submit their own content. – Ryan O’Connell, Boomn
3. Collaborate With Professional YouTubers
One way to grow your customer base through YouTube is to collaborate with professional YouTubers or influencers to cross-promote each other’s brands. But in doing so, make sure that you collaborate with someone with a strong viewer base. Doing that will help you gain a whole new set of audiences. This exposure, in turn, will help you create brand awareness, build credibility and attract new traffic and leads to your channel. – Thomas Griffin, OptinMonster
4. Ask For Customer Feedback
Ask for customer feedback of a video (which is different from a product review) in exchange for a free gift. Customer feedback helps create dialogue and credibility for your company and it builds a community around your brand. You’re more likely to see success on YouTube if you view it as a community rather than just a place to post videos. When you ask for customer feedback, just make sure it won’t be violating any of the review terms. Finally, in turn, leave customer feedback on some brands you respect and admire. The more you give, the more you get back. – Shu Saito, All Filters
5. Create Behind-The-Scenes Videos
A great way to humanize your brand is to create behind-the-scenes videos. You can highlight your workers, areas of your office, quality control and other aspects of your business. Such content creates the feeling of trust and goodwill since you’re opening a window that lets people see how your business works. It’s a chance to highlight why your business is a great fit for customers. Make sure that you focus on values, employee well-being and other matters that touch an emotional chord. You’ll give your brand image a boost and convince people to engage with your business. – Blair Williams, MemberPress
6. Engage And Connect Daily
Do more live videos and take it as an opportunity to engage with more people and remind them to watch your new content. Engage and connect, even if that means commenting on other accounts you collaborate with. If possible, use photos and YouTube Shorts to engage with your followers daily. Make it a habit to connect daily. This is effective because the more content you put on YouTube, the more chances you’ll have to be seen and suggested. Also, the more visible you are, the better it is when it comes to YouTube. – Daisy Jing, Banish
7. Post Educational Guides And Tutorials
One of the best ways to use YouTube to grow your business is to post educational guides and tutorials that teach users how to use your product. There’s a good chance people will find your channel without hearing about your product or service first. If they see a demonstration through one of your tutorials, you can bet that some of your viewers will navigate to your website and become customers. This strategy works because consumers are hyper-focused on products that provide tangible value to their lives. Instead of saying, “buy my product,” you can say, “here’s what my product can do,” which can lead to drastically different responses from visitors. – Chris Christoff, MonsterInsights
8. Host Product Giveaways
When you consider that over 2 billion people log in to YouTube every month, it’s obvious that there are plenty of unique marketing opportunities for businesses across all industries. One universal way you can use YouTube to grow your business is by hosting a giveaway where you give out a few of your top-selling products or services. We like to create rules for our giveaways that align with our other marketing goals. For instance, if we want to generate more email leads, we allow our YouTube followers to grab another giveaway entry by subscribing to our list. – John Turner, SeedProd LLC
