Almost seven days ago, Adele’s new single “Easy on Me” debuted on the Hot 100 much lower than most people expected, but it turned out to be just the beginning for the cut. Now that a full tracking frame has passed for the tune, it bolts to No. 1 on the Hot 100, giving the singer another leader on the most competitive songs ranking in the U.S.
Many predicted that “Easy on Me” would debut on the Hot 100 at No. 1, giving the superstar her second instant ruler, but that didn’t end up being the case. Adele released her new single with a few hours left in a tracking frame, and it was so highly-anticipated, the masses didn’t wait to consume the latest from the powerhouse vocalist. In just five hours, “Easy on Me” racked up enough streams, sales and radio play to debut on the Hot 100 at No. 68. The tune managed to become the fourth-bestselling in America with just a few hours of availability, which speaks to her incredible and unprecedented popularity.
The smash quickly becomes Adele’s fifth No. 1 on the Hot 100 and her first in as many years. She first ruled the ranking in mid-2011 with “Rolling in the Deep,” the song that turned the singer from a rising talent to watch to a household name all around the world. Featured on her album 21, two more singles from that project also worked their way to the summit, with both “Someone Like You” and “Set Fire to the Rain” spending time on the throne. As she began promoting her most recent full-length 25, she debuted its lead cut “Hello” in first place back in the fall of 2015.
In addition to her five champions on the Hot 100, Adele has also pushed two other singles into the top 10, with both “Skyfall” and “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” peaking at No. 8.
“Easy on Me” is the first official single from Adele’s upcoming fourth album 30, which will be released on November 19. Like the song that preceded it, the title is easily one of the most highly-anticipated of 2021, and it will surely go right to the top of the Billboard 200 when it arrives, bringing the Grammy and Oscar winner back to the highest tier once again.
