BTS, Blackpink’s Lisa, Enhypen, Aespa And Stray Kids: K-Pop Dominates Billboard’s Brand New Chart

In an effort to continually provide up-to-date information regarding the music the world is buying, streaming and even talking about, Billboard has launched a pair of new charts based entirely on what the masses are discussing on Twitter. Named simply the Twitter Trending Weekly and Twitter Trending Real Time lists, they look at which songs are talked about the most on the worldwide social media platform.

Unsurprisingly, the top 10 most-discussed songs on Twitter as the chart debuts are all either by or featuring K-pop superstars. Just one of the 10 spots features a Western act, but it’s on a song that credits the biggest South Korean band as well. K-pop acts have reigned supreme on the social site for years, and now Billboard can finally quantify their popularity with this new ranking.

In the last seven days, the most-talked-about song on Twitter was BTS’s “Permission to Dance,” and it leads by a healthy margin. According to the chart, the South Korean septet’s recent global No. 1 smash has been tweeted about nearly 1.15 million times in the past week. It is the only title to rack up one million mentions.

Claiming the next two spots is Lisa of the band Blackpink. The singer and rapper launched her solo career a few weeks ago, and the two songs she debuted with are still incredibly popular. Up first among the pair is “Money,” which has been tweeted about more than 900,000 times in the past week. Her previous single “Lalisa” opens at No. 3 with more than three-quarters of a million mentions.

Closing out the upper half of the top 10 on the 20-spot chart is “Tamed-Dashed” by Enhypen and “My Universe” by the powerful pairing of Coldplay and BTS. Those tunes land at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively, both with more than half a million tweets.

Also included inside the top 10 on the introductory chart are fellow K-pop powerhouses Aespa (“Savage,” No. 6), NCT 127 (“Sticker,” No. 8), Stray Kids (“Thunderous,” No. 9) and Twice (“The Feels,” No. 10). BTS occupy three spots inside the top 10, as their other worldwide hit “Butter” comes in at No. 8, behind both “Permission to Dance” and “My Universe.”

While the songs and even the acts behind them will surely change constantly on the two Twitter charts now published by Billboard, chances are that the biggest and most popular names in the K-pop industry are bound to live toward the top, at least for the foreseeable future.

These were the most-mentioned songs on Twitter in the last week.
