Elden Ring is an upcoming open-world action-RPG from the creators of Dark Souls that looks, well, a lot like Dark Souls.
That’s certainly true of the latest leaked gameplay footage from the 2022 game. In it, a player looks around the open-world of the Lands Between. It’s not an action-packed clip by any means but it gives us a glimpse at the openness—and desolate beauty—of From Software’s new title.
Many versions of this clip have been taken down especially on YouTube, but you can still find some on Twitter, like this one:
If the tweet is gone by the time you read this, I’m sure you’ll have no problem finding another version of the clip on reddit or elsewhere. As you can see, it’s not a lot of gameplay despite being gameplay footage. And it looks like Dark Souls 4, which I’m actually fine with.
It certainly looks more like Dark Souls than either Bloodborne or Sekiro. The character is wearing a long cloak, a helm and some armor, and wields a sword in one hand and a kite shield in another. That’s pure Souls from top to bottom.
Elden Ring, which was co-written by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, launches on January 21st, 2022.
