7 Airline Promotions For Bonus Miles, Perks And Elite Status This Fall
Similar to this fall’s hotel loyalty promotions, airlines are working hard to encourage fall travel and help loyalty program members gather the miles and points they need to keep or earn coveted elite status. With the ongoing Delta variant stifling some travel plans, airline marketing teams are hard at work to develop incentives to help people safely take to the skies and explore new places. In addition to this fall’s NFL hotel sleepover contest and a cruise treasure hunt, these seven recently launched airline promotions can help you rack up more miles and inch faster toward elite status.
United Fly to the Finish/Breakout Bonus status fast track
MileagePlus members potentially have two fast track offers to get them to the elite status finish line through the Fly to the Finish and Breakout Bonus fast track offers. Both are valid through Nov. 30 and require meeting certain flying or spending thresholds. Check if you are eligible for either promotion at this link. There are a lot of rules to sort through, but the bottom line is that there are offers almost everyone including Premier members that have not yet requalified for elite status, those who have and those without any Premier status.
That means everyone is covered with at least one offer. Members get a fast track to elite status by earning bonus Premier Qualifying Points (PQP) needed for status. The Breakout Bonus offer also offers Premier Qualifying Flight (PQF) credit for meeting certain spending thresholds on United Chase MileagePlus credit cards and bonus PQP for taking award flights.
Transfer hotel points to United for bonus miles
If you need more United MileagePlus miles, consider transferring hotel loyalty points to United before the end of September to qualify for a 30% bonus. Registration is required before starting the transfer. While this is not the best value when redeeming hotel points, it can make sense when transferring Marriott Bonvoy points. Marriott-to-United exchanges offer the most favorable transfer rate, but if you have enough “orphan” hotel points languishing in an account somewhere, this could be a good way to put them to use.
Alaska extends 50% elite qualifying miles (EQM) offer
If you are concerned with earning enough EQMs to achieve or maintain elite status with Alaska Airlines by the end of the year, you’re in luck. The newest oneworld alliance member has extended an offer it started earlier this year awarding a 50% EQM bonus on all flights through the end of the year. This ongoing promotion does not require registration, but make sure your Mileage Plan number is in your reservation before flying.
Earn bonus AAdvantage miles with World of Hyatt
If your plans take you overseas, this promotion could boost both your frequent flier and hotel points balance. Between Sept. 3 and Dec. 19, members can earn 1,000 AAdvantage miles per qualifying stay at 130 participating Hyatt hotels in 30 countries in Europe, Middle East, Africa and India. Members must register for this promotion by Nov. 30 to be eligible. In addition, certain elite members in both programs can enjoy reciprocal benefits like bonus miles and points when they link their accounts before they travel.
Double Southwest Rapid Rewards tier qualifying points
Southwest is awarding double tier qualifying points toward earning elite status on flights this fall. Register via the promotions page after signing into your Rapid Rewards account online. Members must be signed up for the promotion before making a reservation and flying. It is only valid for new flights booked and flown between now and Nov. 30.
Southwest Rapid Rewards bonus for online shopping
Many airlines have online shopping malls where you click on hundreds of retailers via their portal page and earn a bonus. Between now and Oct. 1, Southwest’s shopping page is offering 1,500 bonus Rapid Rewards points for downloading its shopping portal button and spending at least $50. With the holidays fast approaching, this could be an easy 1,500 points for spending you might already be planning to make.
Free Expo 2020 Dubai tickets for Etihad fliers
Travelers flying on Etihad Airways to or through Abu Dhabi between Oct. 1 and March 31, 2022 are eligible for free tickets to the Expo 2020 Dubai, which is taking place on those same dates in the neighboring emirate of Dubai. The drive between Abu Dhabi and Dubai takes 45 minutes, and free shuttles will run from multiple Abu Dhabi locations (including the airport) every 20 minutes to the event.
This is the first time the global expo has taken place in the Middle East. Expo 2020 Dubai was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The event will include daily shows, access to themed pavilions and a variety of global exhibits. The free Expo 2020 ticket offer is valid on both revenue tickets as well as award tickets, according to the airline.
