BTS’s Latest High-Profile Collaboration Is Coming Next Friday
BTS currently rule the Hot 100 with their single “Butter,” which returned to the summit for a tenth nonconsecutive turn atop the tally after the band re-released a new remixed version of the global smash. The tune is expected to vacate the highest rung on the weekly songs ranking in the U.S. in just a few hours, as chances are Drake will score another immediate champion when Billboard announces the latest iteration of the list, but BTS already have their next release lined up…and it could give them another big hit.
Just a short time ago, British alternative/rock/pop band Coldplay announced via Instagram their new single “My Universe” is scheduled to be released next Friday, September 24, and it will feature none other than BTS. The two globally-adored groups are teaming up for what is surely already one of the most highly-anticipated songs of the year, and it is bound to perform well.
“My Universe” serves as the second official single from Coldplay’s upcoming ninth album Music of the Spheres, which is expected on October 15. The band has already doled out first single “Higher Power,” which was tailor-made for pop radio and which became a medium-sized hit in a number of countries, including in their home nation of the U.K., where it peaked at No. 12. The group also shared album track “Coloratura” not long ago.
Coldplay’s new album is produced by legendary hitmaker Max Martin, who knows how to craft a pop smash like nobody in history. He has been producing time-tested hits for decades, and he’s behind such memorable wins as The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber’s “I Don’t Care,” Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time” and Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off,” to name just a few. With the Swedish musician and BTS on board, there’s a real chance that “My Universe” can become a real chart success, but predictions about how well it will perform when it arrives on rankings all over the world is too difficult to predict this far out.
BTS are still riding high on the success of “Butter,” which rebounded on charts recently as the septet released a new version featuring Megan Thee Stallion, turning the cut from a pure pop smash into a hip-hop/pop hybrid. The track has already started to fall on some important charts, and it will probably not rise again, as its time in the sun may be over. The release of “My Universe” comes at an excellent time, as the band will now have another single to keep fans happy and to give them more time as they work on their next full-length, which so far has not been announced.
