Billboard announced just yesterday (August 22) that Billie Eilish has managed to keep her sophomore album Happier Than Ever at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for a third consecutive week, tying it with Taylor Swift’s Evermore as the second-longest-running champion of 2021 (behind Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour). The set was a huge success on every ranking it reached from the moment it appeared, but the teen musician performed better on a number of rock-related charts than anywhere else. In fact, her new music wasn’t just popular or highly-streamed, it was beloved enough to help her take over these lists like few before her ever have.
Here’s a look at how Eilish dominated Billboard’s rock charts when Happier Than Ever first debuted.
Hot Rock & Alternative Songs
The Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart is a catch-all tally that includes any tune that can be labeled as rock in any way, and while that makes it more competitive for most musicians, Eilish didn’t have any issue taking it over the moment her album arrived. 14 of the 16 songs featured on Happier Than Ever appeared on the ranking, with more appearing close to the top than further down the 50-spot roster.
Eilish occupied three spots inside the top 10 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, eight in the top 20 and three other spaces before the end of the list. The album’s title track opened in first place, bringing the teen singer-songwriter back to the summit for just the second time in her career. Two No. 1 hits might not sound like a lot, but it was enough for her to tie Taylor Swift for the second-most leaders among female musicians.
Hot Alternative Songs
The Hot Alternative Songs chart is essentially a slightly-more-specific version of the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs ranking, as it only includes those tunes deemed alternative as opposed to rock as well, so it’s also half as short as the larger tally. Amazingly, while there are only 25 spots available (instead of 50), Eilish still claimed the same number of rungs as she did on the previously-mentioned list.
Eilish filled 14 of the 25 spots on the Hot Alternative Songs chart as the tunes from Happier Than Ever dominated, with the title track also kicking off its time on the tally in first place. The Grammy winner occupied half of all the spaces inside the top 10 with a healthy mix of debuts and surging smashes, while nine other tracks found space before the No. 25 mark.
Alternative Streaming Songs
Of all the Billboard rock charts that Eilish appeared on in the week Happier Than Ever was the biggest album in the U.S., the Alternative Streaming Songs ranking is the one she conquered like no other. The “Bad Guy” superstar occupied an incredible 80% of the spots inside the top 10 on the tally, with only Glass Animals’ “Heat Wave” (No. 2) and The Kid Laroi’s “Without You” (No. 8) finding space within the loftiest tier as well. Seven more Eilish tracks also appear on the Alternative Streaming Songs chart, bringing her total to 15 hits on the 25-rung ladder.
