DaBaby’s Credit Has Been Removed From Dua Lipa’s ‘Levitating’ On Several Billboard Charts

Dua Lipa and DaBaby’s musicianship and flow worked well on the former’s single “Levitating,” which was released as one of the last singles from her sophomore album Future Nostalgia. The tune was originally a solo cut, but in order to make it more appealing to the American masses, rapper DaBaby hopped on a new version, which was unleashed as a proper single in late 2020. Now, following a controversy that has engulfed the hip-hop musician, one that seems to never end, the tune is succeeding without the man who helped push it to the top of various charts in the U.S.

As of this week, DaBaby’s credit as a featured musician has officially been removed from a number of Billboard’s radio charts. That means that while the song is still being played, DJs and programmers have largely switched from the collaborative version to the solo option. In fact, now that his name no longer appears as an artist on the tune, it’s clear that a majority of spins the smash is receiving no longer feature his contributions.

DaBaby has been removed from the Radio Songs chart, where “Levitating” earns its seventh stay in the penthouse. Last week, the rapper was still credited on the cut, but now Dua Lipa stands alone at No. 1. The rapper is also not mentioned alongside the superstar on all three pop radio lists: the Pop Airplay, Adult Contemporary and Adult Pop charts.

When looking at Billboard charts that don’t focus solely on radio, DaBaby appears on some rankings, but not others. He’s still credited on “Levitating” on the Hot 100, where the tune returns to the No. 3 position, and his name is still visible on the Streaming Songs list. Over on the Digital Song Sales chart, which ranks the bestselling tunes in the nation, he’s nowhere to be found, even though the composition sits at No. 7.

For weeks now, DaBaby has been embroiled in a controversy that has seen him labeled as uneducated, a bigot and a homophobe. While on stage during the Rolling Loud music festival, he took a moment to utter several sentences that disparaged those living with HIV/AIDS, women and those who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community. In the days and weeks that have followed, he has shared several poor apologies, at least one of which has already been deleted, and he further antagonized those he offended several times over. These moves have led to many distancing themselves from the chart-topping musician, even Dua Lipa herself, who denounced his comments on Instagram.

While DaBaby might not be mentioned as a musician on a “Levitating” on a number of Billboard charts, he is still credited as a songwriter, even though the solo version is receiving the lion’s share of attention.
