Several country solo stars and rockers are enjoying a very special week on the Hot 100, as a handful of well-known names are able to rise to new heights, score big hits or even place on the tally for the first time. Some of them are joined by superstars like Drake and Taylor Swift, who lend their talents and famous brands to just-released songs that have become instant successes on the ranking.
Here’s a look at five of the most important moves on this week’s Hot 100 singles chart.
No. 14 – Aaron Lewis – “Am I The Only One”
The loftiest debut on this week’s Hot 100 comes from rocker and country singer-songwriter Aaron Lewis, whose new release “Am I The Only One” raises some eyebrows by launching at No. 14. That’s a very lofty position for the musician to reach, let alone for him to debut a new tune at. The single is his first top 40 hit as a soloist, and his third overall, as he’s scored two additional smashes as the frontman of the band Staind.
No. 26 – Cole Swindell – “Single Saturday Night”
One of a handful of new top 40 hits on this week’s Hot 100, Cole Swindell collects his third appearance inside the important region on the chart with his latest release “Single Saturday Night.” The tune, which isn’t attached to a full-length or EP just yet (but which surely will be), is now the singer-songwriter’s highest-charting song on the Hot 100, as it beats the No. 28 peak of his debut track “Chillin’ It.” This frame, the cut vaults from No. 53 to No. 26, which shows an incredible upward trajectory.
No. 35 – Dan + Shay – “Glad You Exist”
A bit behind Swindell’s hit comes another country tune that breaks into the top 40 on the tally for the first time. Dan + Shay’s “Glad You Exist,” the third single from the duo’s upcoming unannounced full-length, gives the band yet another major win on the Hot 100 as it lifts from No. 54 to No. 35. It’s the sixth placement in the arena for the Grammy-winning band.
No. 49 – Brent Faiyaz – “Wasting Time (ft. Drake)”
For several months, Brent Faiyaz has been doling out new singles, and it all seems to be leading up to the release of his sophomore album Make It Out Alive. The latest, “Wasting Time,” benefits immensely from the inclusion of Drake, and the two start their collaboration at No. 49 on the Hot 100 this week. The cut is the R&B and hip-hop musician’s third to reach the tally, while Drake furthers his lead as the act with the most Hot 100 wins. He has now appeared on the ranking with 235 different songs.
No. 73 – Big Red Machine – “Renegade (ft. Taylor Swift)”
Taylor Swift is no stranger to scoring Hot 100 hits whenever she releases a song, but Big Red Machine is new to this…at least under that name. The rock duo, composed of The National’s Aaron Dessner and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, arrives on the chart for the first time with just-released single “Renegades,” and the success is likely thanks to the fact that Swift is credited on the tune. She sings and co-wrote the cut, which precedes the pair’s forthcoming sophomore album How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last?, due later this month.
