A healthy number of songs debut on this week’s U.K. singles chart, earning impressive starting positions thanks to the superstar names attached. Some score back-to-back successes, while others make their way to the higher reaches of the ranking after short breaks away.
Here’s a look at five of the most important moves on this week’s U.K. singles chart.
No. 5 – The Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber – “Stay”
The loftiest debut of the week in the U.K. arrives courtesy of Justin Bieber and relative newcomer The Kid Laroi, who both return with “Stay,” which appears to be the first single from the latter act’s forthcoming album F*ck Lov3. The tune is just the second top 10 hit in the U.K. for The Kid Laroi and the twenty-seventh for Bieber.
No. 16 – BTS – “Permission to Dance”
The third-loftiest debut this week on the U.K. singles chart comes from BTS, whose latest release “Permission to Dance” opens at No. 16. The South Korean septet has now landed inside the top 40 with seven different tracks, making them the most successful group from their home country when looking at the number of times they’ve placed in that important area. As “Permission to Dance” appears, their current single “Butter” dips four spots to No. 34, meaning they once again claim more than one spot inside the top 40.
No. 23 – Billie Eilish – “NDA”
In less than one month, Billie Eilish will release her sophomore album Happier Than Ever, which may be the most highly-anticipated full-length of the year. New cut “NDA” is the set’s official fifth single, and it starts off at No. 23 on the U.K. songs chart. The teen singer-songwriter has now collected a dozen top 40 hits in the country, and she will surely earn more in the coming months as she doles out more tracks her new project.
No. 33 – Post Malone – “Motley Crew”
One of the most popular musicians in the world due to his ability to seamlessly blend pop and hip-hop, Post Malone’s new single “Motley Crew” earns a somewhat disappointing debut on the U.K. songs tally this frame, as it only rises as high as No. 33, though these are still early days for the tune. While it might not have performed as well as some of his past releases, the track is still his milestone fifteenth top 40 win.
No. 94 – Tones & I – “Dance Monkey”
Almost at the bottom of the U.K. singles chart this time around comes Tones & I with her breakout smash “Dance Monkey,” which took over the globe back in 2019. The track, which climbed all the way to No. 1 in the U.K. and earned 11 stays in the penthouse, has now lived on the tally for 100 weeks, which remains a rare milestone that only the biggest smashes reach.
